Sherborne Town Reserves vs

Merley Cobham Sports

Cadburys Business Park Dorset Premier League

Match Report Saturday 28th October

Holt United 2 - 2 Sherborne Town Reserves

Cadburys Business Park Dorset Premier League

The reserves went into this game full of confidence after they came out winners in last weeks cup victory over Parley. Holt had been scoring goals for fun and from the off took the game to Sherborne. They missed a few half chances with some good saves from Kane Woodgate and one clear cut header, and it looked as though the town were going to hold on to half time. But three minutes before the break Holt scored with a fine strike from their midfielder giving new signing Kane (Zane) Woodgate no chance. Young Ben Morris was the towns glimmer of light in the first half as he went on some brilliant runs tearing the Holt players apart.

Holt were rewarded a penalty within the first 5 minutes of the second half after Josh Gear accidently blocked a shot with his hand. Kane went the right way but the shot had too much power on it. Things went from bad to worse as Alex Hodges was sin binned for bad mouthing the referee. But although the town were down for ten men this didnt stop them playing football. They got their reward when Shane Pulling scored from 35 yards out chipping the ball over their keeper. This brought more confidence to the side and moments later they found themselves level at 2-2. Ben Morris went on another little run before squaring the ball to Craig Royel to score adding another goal to his two last week. The game was now in Sherborne's hands and they went chasing the winner and almost got it but Curtis Browns tight angled effort was blocked on the line. Holt then tried to push for the winner but the back line of the reserves held firm and saw out the draw.

The game finished 2-2 and this result was the towns first point. They now travel to Hamworthy united in the cup before hosting Wareham, Parley and Cobham next month.

Will Ireland made his debut for his new club and he played a key role in the towns first point of the season. Welcome to the club Will.

PS Remember the clocks go back tonight!
