1-1 (Away Draw)

Match Report

Sherborne travelled to West Clewes to face an improving Welton Rovers side who were looking to haul themselves off of the bottom of the league table, it was a must not lose game for Sherborne who were sitting just above them in the table but with the host having games in hand. Dual registered Luke Winsper had opted to sit on the beach at Weymouth but back into the side came Adam Barratt,Steve Friend and Tony Cunningham took places on the bench both returning from injury/illness  and Cian Cabell stepped up from the reserves to take a place on the bench alongside them.
The game started frantically on a heavy pitch Nick Jacobs did well early doors to block a Tom Knighton effort and an early Welton corner was well claimed by Jamie Beale in the Sherborne goal. The best chance in the early stages fell to Marc Caines who did well to bring down a delightful Harry Montacute through ball but then dragged his shot wide of the target. Sherborne got themselves into a deserved lead in the 17th minute again Caines was involved rising well at the far post to head the abll back across goal for the advancing Elliott Mann to sweep past Lewis.
Welton almost equalised immediately, Dunn getting himself in a good position but his shot curled wide of Beales far post. Sherborne were guilty of giving away a succession of free kicks which Welton couldn’t convert into chances until the 32nd minute when they made Sherborne pay sweeping one deep into the penalty area that Beale failed to claim and although making a good save he couldn’t prevent Garland from smashing home the rebound.
The visitors were dealt a blow in the 38th minute when a clash of heads left Raiff Plant nursing a suspected broken nose, Tony Cunningham the man to replace him as he left the pitch dazed.
Half time came and due to concerns over Plants injury it was thought best to get him checked over at the hospital and being the designated driver of the day  meant I was the man to escort him alongside Secretary Goodland thus missing the second half…But I am reliably informed there were further chances both ends with the goalkeepers both playing well, the best chance of the game came when Steve Bridge volleyed towards goal but some great defending from Sam Farthing who headed the ball onto the cross bar and away from danger.
1-1 Full time.
