Match Report

A much changed and more adventurous line up was the order of the day for the Zebras as they entertained top of the table Bristol Manor Farm at Raleigh Grove.Sherborne were looking to attack the visitors with four recognised strikers in the starting line up in the shape of Caines,Carney,Cunningham and Mann.Kris Hastings came in for the now departed Ben Cochrane in the centre of defence to partner Aaron White.
The match kicked off with Sherborne playing with a strong wind in their favour and they so nearly got off to a great start when Marc Caines found himself through on goal but he couldn’t get the ball under control and the attack was snuffed out.
Manor Farm were always dangerous going forward looking to play the ball out wide at every opportunity Will Hailstone looking dangerous in the early stages twice sending shots in on goal. A Kye Holly corner on fifteen minutes was flicked goalwards by Lloyd Mills but his effort was cleared of the goal line.
The game sprung to life in a three minute period starting in the 26th minute after Sherborne conceded a free kick on the edge of their own penalty area, the ball was flighted over to the far post where Aron Robbins was on hand to head past James Smith. The visitors almost double their lead a minute later when some fine footwork from Jordan Metters saw him curl a shot into the far corner of the goal luckily for Sherborne the match officials were up on the change in law regarding off side situations and the goal was chalked off after Dean Stamp had jumped over the ball on its journey to goal thus deceiving James Smith in the home goal and was rightly adjudged to have been off side.
Sherborne took advantage of this situation equalising a minute later, Luke Winsper was hauled down deep in the Manor Farm half to   side a free kick Marc Caine’s stepped over the ball leaving Tony Cunningham to send a curling effort past a static Ashley Clarke.
Manor Farm continued to pose problems to the Sherborne defence but couldn’t find a way past the outstanding pairing of Aaron White and Kris Hastings whose reading of the game was superb keeping the visitors ace marksmen Dean Stamp quiet for the half.
The second half started in torrential and as expected with the wind in their favour it was Manor Farm who were putting Sherborne under constant pressure Stamp had a deflected effort go just wide on 51 minutes and a succession of well taken corners in the driving wind and rain kept Sherborne firmly penned in their own half. The 53 minute saw another Farm goal chalked off Ryan Radford was adjudged to have pushed his marker as the ball sailed in direct from a corner kick.
A rare foray into enemy territory saw Marc Caines send an effort goalwards that Ashley Clarke did well to hold in the increasingly poor conditions. Sherborne were defending desperately, showing guts and determination to keep their opponents at bay throwing their bodies in front of the ball.James Smith pulled of a fantastic save form substitute Pete Sheppard in the 83rd minute as it looked like the home side would hang on for a draw, however it was not to be when Lloyd Mills got on the end of a Kye Holly near post corner to head home in the 87th minute to give the visitors the three points.
A good entertaining game of football that Sherborne will be disappointed not to have taken a point however a much improved performance that pushed the table toppers to the limit. The whole team put in a shift that if they can repeat on a regular basis should see them climb the table. Stand out performances came from Luke Winsper in the middle of the park and Kris Hasting who was outstanding alongside Aaron White who just pipped him for Man of the Match but every Sherborne player can be proud of their performance against a very good Bristol Manor Farm side.
