Match Report

Brislington 2 Sherborne Town 0

On a very sticky surface which produced little in way of flowing football the “Zebras” returned from Bristol beaten, but not disgraced.

As early as the 4th minute Sherborne caused problems for the home defence when Marc Caines crossed low for the advancing Farthing only for the Brislington keeper to scoop up. James Smith deputising in goal for the unavailable Jamie Beale was in a confident mood as he coolly collected shots from the home team’s Jon Moss, and Luke Meacham who at times, seemed to be taking it in turns to warm Smithy’s hand up!
Marc Caines and Aaron White, had efforts midway through the first half only to see them go wide. The half sprang to life in the 35th minute when there was a difference of opinions between the two technical areas when Jake Hobbs appeared to be kicked in the stomach whist on the floor, handbags were displayed by both sets of coaches!
The lively Jon Moss opened the scoring for the hosts on 37 minutes firing past the outstretched arms of Smith. Sherborne had a claim for a penalty turned down just before half time when Marc Caines looked like he was pulled down by the home keeper.

Half Time.

Brislington 1 Sherborne Town 0

Sherborne started the second half with high tempo, and determination to get back into the game. But once again a defensive mix up allowed Luke Meacham to scramble the ball home to give his team a two goal advantage. Sherborne pressed the resolute home defence but were unable to break through, notable half chances came from Pete Ireland, Harry Monacute and Marc Caines. Yet another penalty claim was turned down by the “boss in black”
With Sherborne looking to get a goal back to set up an interesting last 10 minutes gaps appeared at the back, but fine defending by Smith, Cochrane, and White repelled the danger of the visitors falling further behind. Mayhem was caused in the Brislington penalty area when substitute Elliot Mann’s shot was blocked after a scramble, the resulting corner saw Marc Caines floored again for yet another claim for a kick on goal from 12 yards.
With virtually the last kick the game Aaron White cleared the ball off the line.

No points, but a battling performance from the boy’s, who looked like they wanted to play for each other.
