Saturday 12 September 2015
Toolstation Western League Premier Division 2015/16
1-1 (Home Draw)
On a bright sunny day with a strong wind blowing from the Dorchester Road end to the Castle end, there was a poor attendance of 41 to see if Sherborne could halt their recent poor run against a Bitton side who had started the season well.Ben Cochrane made his first start of the season after his brief spell at Gillingham and Jamie Beale was recalled to the first team line up a the expense of Liam Norris who travelled with the reserves.
It was the home side who were the more threatening in the early stages, Although the first meaningful effort came from Bittons danger man Aysa Corrick who shot wide when well placed.Marc Caines then shot on the turn but his goal bound was deflected for a corner, Caines followed this up with a header that sailed just over from the resulting corner.Nick Jacobs put through on goal and managed to round the keeper but from a tight angle could only manage to shoot into the side netting.
Bitton were always dangerous on the counter attack and from one such foray forward they earnt a corner that defender Jack Hewlett hit Jamie Beales cross bar.Bitton then thought they had taken the lead when Luke Bryan found the back of the Sherborne net but the assistant referee came to the home sides rescue judging Bryan to be in an offside position. Sam Farthing had Sherborne best chance of the half right on the stroke of half time aiming a shot at Will Osbourne who saved well from point blank range to send the sides in at the break level.
Worryingly for Sherborne after recent performance it was Bitton who started the second half the brighter side, but fear not a Nick Jacobs run on 50 minutes saw Sherborne win a corner which was swung in to be met by Chris Hastings who powered a header past Osbourne to give the home side the lead.
Bitton were still dangerous but were being restricted to long range efforts that were comfortably dealt with by Beale. The game then began to get stretched with end to end attacks from both sides.Bittons Conner Britton equalised with a shot across the goal which found the far corner. The Home team could have snatched all three points in the last minute when Hastings header hit bar and cleared off the line.
