Away Match vs Cribbs Friends Life FC (TWLPD)
Saturday 22 August 2015
Toolstation Western League Premier Division 2015/16
1-0 (Away Defeat)
Sherborne travelled to Cribbs full of confidence having not tasted defeat in the early stages of the season however their plans were disrupted at the eleventh hour by the withdrawal of Cian Cabell Nick Jacobs stepped up from the bench to replace him.
As the game got underway on a superb playing surface it was Cribbs who settled much the better side although for their early dominance little by the way of chances were created, this changed in the 16th minute when from an angle Cribbs lively winger Jordan Yeo smashed a great volley against the Sherborne post with Liam Norris in the Sherborne goal a mere spectator. Steve Burton then made a great block on the edge of his own penalty area followed by the home sides Tom Bradley shooting wildly over.
Cribbs got straight back into the swing off things Liam Norris making a smart save to turn a Dom Graffagnino effort over the bar in the 36th minute for a Cribbs corner which was swung in with menace and Norris was forced into making another smart stop.
The half came to a conclusion and with the visitors not having a shot on target it was hoped that the Manager would give them the rocket they needed at half time to get them firing for the second half whilst the committee tucked in to the excellent Cribbs hospitality…..how many Donuts Mr Goodland?
The second half commenced with Cribbs again on the front foot Cribbs star man Jordan Yeo rampaging down the wing drew a good save from Norris from a tight angle in the 51st minute,Yeo got in on goal again moments later after the Sherborne midfield gave the ball away this time he sent a great ball across the box where Sherbornes Jonny Manley was on hand to make a tremendous defensive clearance to get his side out of trouble.
The Cribbs goal finally arrived when a long ball down the wing saw Yeo flying down the wing in a race which saw Norris rushing from his goaline, Yeo won the race rounded Norris and sent the ball across where George King was lurking to bundle the ball into an empty net, 1-0 60 minutes played.
Sherborne Manager Manley had seen enough and sent on Elliott Mann to replace Raith Plant, Sherborne began to get into the game and registered their first shot on target in the 63rd minute with a Caines effort from distance that Matt Turner in the home goal dealt with comfortably.
Sherborne withdrew Cunningham and Jacobs sending on Friend and Quirke and it was Quirke who was involved in Sherbornes best chance of the game making a great run down the wing before sending in a cross that Sam Farthing got on the end of but could hit the post with Turner stranded.
The referee bought the game to a conclusion and Sherborne could have no arguments with the score line in what was an uncharacteristic lack lustre performance from the boys.
