Home Match vs Yeovil Town FC (Pre-season)
Saturday 1 August 2015
Sherborne Town 1st
0-5 (Home Defeat)
A Yeovil Town Under-18s side emphatically beat Western League Premier Division side Sherborne Town at Raleigh Grove, in a pre-season friendly. In what had been badged as an 'XI' fixture, it was the club's Academy side that took to the field of play, and after a single goal from Phillip Stroble during the first half, two quick goals from substitute Jack Ball put them into a commanding position just after the break. The match was finished off by late goals, with Stroble getting his second, whilst Ollie Bassett bagged the fifth.
In a much quieter first half, Yeovil Town took the lead when a free kick was put into the Sherborne box. The home side failed to clear their lines properly, leading to a goalmouth melee, and Phillip Stroble was on hand to fire home from ten yards out. That put the Glovers a goal up at the break, although they chose to make a double half time substitution to rotate around the squad that they had at the Grove.
One of those players had an instant impact, scoring twice inside three minutes. Jack Ball netted with his first legitimate touch of the ball, with a previous attempt to win possession being blown up for a foul. The same player then scored from an inswinging corner on 49 minutes to put Yeovil 3-0 up.
Both Yeovil and Sherborne made plenty of second half substitutions, until two late goals finished off the match. The first came from a counter-attacking move, as Ollie Bassett's quick run saw Sherborne stretched, allowing him to feed Phillip Stroble inside the box, who got two bites of the cherry before converting for his second of the afternoon. Then Bassett turned goalscorer himself as he accepted a cross into the box, slotting home for the fifth and final goal of the afternoon.
