Match Report

Sherborne Town recorded their biggest win this season, with a thumping 4-0 win at Bridport in the Second Round of the Dorset Senior Cup.

The game was played at a fast pace, with Sherborne Town being the first to settle with better possession than their opponents. Sherborne’s back line looked a more composed unit benefiting from a hard working midfield and together with goalkeeper, Mike Kneish in between the sticks in dazzling form.

So it was no surprise Sherborne were the first to score when Nick Jacobs cross field pass to Lewis Morgan who then skilfully reached the goal line and crossed to the far post for Matt Morley to head into the net.

Sherborne continued with further positive attacks and went into a 2-0 lead after 23 minutes when Morgan scored direct from a 25 yard free kick. During one of Bridport's few attacks they found Kneish hard to beat.

The score increased to 3-0 just nine minutes before half- time when Harry Montacute skilfully lobbed the keeper after good approach play by Morley.

Twelve minutes into the second half, Mark Lawrence chased a Jacobs through ball into the box where he showed speed and courage to beat the goalkeeper to the ball and force it into the back of the net.

Bridport to their credit were still trying to score a consolation goal and did hit the crossbar and continued to find Kneish in scintillating form.

Sherborne will now be at home on the 30th November to either Portland United or Poole Borough in the next round.
