Sherborne Town Reserves

2-1 (Away Defeat)

Match Report

A good crowd turned up for this match but didn't get the thriller they were hoping for. Both teams seemed to cancel each other out in the first half which turned into a bit of a drab midfield stalemate. Sherborne Town Reserves had a lot of territorial possession but rarely troubled Ashley Knibbs in the home goal.

The home side, meanwhile, seemed content to sit back and try to knock balls over the top to utilise Mike Rousell's pace. The first 45 minutes was a fairly poor half of football, keenly contested, but lacking quality.

After 50 minutes, Westland Sports broke the deadlock. Mike Rousell sent in a shot from out on the right which fell to Sam Jarman who smashed the ball into the roof of the net from a yard out. Sherborne Town Reserves continued to dig in, knowing that there was only goal in it.

In the 80th minute, Sherborne got their equaliser after the hosts were caught out by a classic goal on the break. A cross from the left was met by forward, Sam Bowers, (who had ran 30 yards or so down the middle to get on the end of it) who powered a header past Knibbs in the hosts’ goal.

However, Westland Sports again went in front and got the winner, two minutes after Sherborne Town Reserves had scored. Leo Hayward drove into the box, hooked a cross over to the far post where Lewis Morgan was running in to head across the keeper into the far corner of the net.
