Home Match vs Westland Sports FC (MDPL)
Wednesday 17 August 2011
Magna Dorset Premier League 2011/12
Sherborne Town Reserves
0-6 (Home Defeat)
''The scoreline did not reflect the way we played’’ was Sherborne Town Reserves manager, Dave Gudge’s words after his side went down 6-0 to Yeovil based side, Westland Sports.
Gudge said: '' In the first half we had chances before they scored a wonder goal. We could have been level soon after before they scored from a well taken free-kick. Even then, we could have pulled one or two back before the break.
In the second half, both sides had a chance, but then we went down to ten men for an alleged second bookable offence. It was hard enough at 11v11, but with 10 it was just a bit too much for a young side, although we still created chances and could have scored as many as them.
We kept on having a go and without question, my boys gave it everything but just could not score, even with ten men we ripped them apart at times.’’
Gudge added: ''I’d like to say well done to my boys, well done to our opponents, Westland Sports and more so, well done to my senior players, Paul Delmasso, Neil Budden, Howard Batten and Nathan Geary for playing well and keeping the young lads going. A special thanks goes to Marc Lock, Mark Lawrence and Matt Morley, all who played the night before and still put in strong performances.
All round we still tried to play and never stopped working from start to finish. There are so many plus points to take from this game that I still believe we will do ok this year if we stay together and build on our game each week.’’
