3-1 (Away Defeat)

Match Report

Sherborne Town returned home from Hallen empty handed, despite a ‘valiant effort’ from the players.

Sherborne Town were punished for having a slow start and gave away two sloppy goals within the first 10 minutes. The first came after only 5 minutes on the clock when a long clearance bounced through a Hallen’s attacker’s legs and straight to his striking partner who was unexplainably left unmarked at the edge of the box. He had time to get the ball under control and slot past Sherbs goalkeeper, Marc Lock unopposed.

Hallen’s second goal came from a dubious penalty decision.

However, this seemed to spark Sherborne into action and for the remaining 35 first half minutes, dominated the game.

In the 15th minute a quick throw in from Lewis Morgan to forward Jack Dalziel, who  managed to create some space on the edge of the box and fire in a shot which the keeper could only parry into the path of Captain Harry Montacute to tap in.

Sherborne continued to dominate and in the 44th minute an excellent cross from Montacute found the head of Morgan who headed onto the crossbar with the Hallen keeper stranded. The Ball rebounded to Morgan who could only head it back straight into the keeper’s arms.

The early stages of the second half was all STFC and when Hallen had a player sent off for violent conduct the momentum looked like it would swing in Sherbs favour. However, another unwelcomed injury to Dalziel meant that Player/Manager, Mickey Spencer had to come on as Sherborne only had two named substitutes.

Sherborne had a great opportunity to draw level when a Matt Morley shot was parried into the path of Mickey Spencer and somehow the keeper seemed to save. As time was running out Sherborne reverted to three men upfront and this opened Sherbs up to the counter attacker which Hallen capitalised on in the 86th minute.

Sherborne Town manager, Mickey Spencer said: ‘A Valiant effort from the players, but a great opportunity missed to at least pick up a draw and a much needed point!’

Sherborne Town Line Up: Marc Lock, Jason Bond (Jack Burnett 70), Kyle Chesterman, Nick Jacobs, Steve Tayler, Chris Cowley, Jamie Manley,, Harry Monatcute (Capt), Jack Dalziel (Mickey Spencer 60), Lewis Morgan, Matt Morley.
