Away Match vs Hallen FC (TWLPD)
Saturday 12 December 2009
Toolstation Western League Premier Division 2009/10
Sherborne Town 1st
2-1 (Away Defeat)
Ashley Knibbs - kept Sherborne in the game
Manager Mickey Spencer admitted his team were lucky not to lose by a bigger margin at Hallen.
Sherborne Town were a shadow of the team that crushed Brislington 6-1 a week earlier, as they lost 2-1 in the Toolstation Western League Premier Division.
The visitors only glimmers of promise were Ian Jenkins' second goal in as many games and a strong performance from keeper Ashley Knibbs.
Spencer said: "We were unrecognisable from the team the week before. It was very disappointing and I sensed in the warm-up that we were not the same team.
"Our attitude in the warm-up was not right and it continued from there. We were very fortunate to lose just 2-1."
Hallen opened the scoring in the opening five minutes, before Sherborne rallied with Jenkins' equaliser when he tapped in a deflected free kick.
The hosts took little time to restore their advantage, with Knibbs standing in their way of further strikes.
Spencer said: "We did not deserve anything. The players need to know that the onus is on them to not think that turning up is a prerequisite for a win.
"It is the manner and state of mind in which they turn up. It was so evident that today was going to come and go without anyone really applying themselves to 70 per cent of last week.
"Hallen deserved the win but our level of play made them look a far better team."
